Launch of the European Drug Shortages Formulary (EDSForm) platform
Strasbourg, 28 April 2026 – The European Directorate for the Quality of Medicines & HealthCare (EDQM) has officially launched the European Drug Shortages Formulary (EDSForm) Platform, a key initiative to address medicine shortages and safeguard continuity of patient care.
Developed under the joint auspices of the European Committee on Pharmaceuticals and Pharmaceutical Care and the European Pharmacopoeia Commission, the platform provides standardised, safely compoundable formulary monographs for use when licensed medicines are unavailable, supporting healthcare professionals in maintaining essential treatments.
Three inaugural texts have been published: the Introduction to the EDSForm, the General Principles of the EDSForm, and a monograph on Amoxicillin capsules (125 mg, 250 mg, and 500 mg). All documents have undergone public consultation and are now freely accessible on the newly launched online platform, ensuring wide availability to clinicians and pharmacists across Europe.
Further monographs are in preparation and will be released for consultation in the coming months. This project represents a major step in strengthening European coordination and resilience in medicine supply.
